Abstract

The paper depicts the historical transformation of understanding of law in connection with the dynamic transformation of social life in recent years based on a diachronous and synchronous comparative analysis of empirical data of various countries. The author comes to the conclusion that, in present-day environment, the classical formal and dogmatic understanding of law, as set out in the textbooks on the theory of state and law, cannot fully meet the challenges of the current times; the state of law can be metaphorically compared to the state of the character portrayed by Julianne Moore in “Still Alice” — a linguistics professor who is gradually losing her identity to Alzheimer's.
