Abstract

The article considers the idea of a “common good”, fundamental for the Middle Ages and the Modern Times, which was widely presented in the petitions of Reims artisans and merchants about the regulations and in the ordinances that approved them. The author compared arguments used by the parties, about consent, order, high quality products, prevention of abuse; showed how the concept of a “common good” was refracted in the ideas of citizens and officials. The author separately examined the expert assessment of the regulations, the criteria of which were also determined from the position of a “common good”.
