Abstract

This research focuses on the memories of Siberian German Catholics about traumatic events of the war and post-war years. Migration from the Volga Region to Siberia and the Labour army were the objects of reflection. The interviewing that took place in 1993—1994 was both massive and widespread in its scope. The article focuses on the role of oral sources in the study of both everyday history and generalizations of Entangled History. In particular, the recollections of German Catholics showed that religious beliefs influenced people's behaviour in terms of marriage, the role of women in leading religious communities significantly increased, and, due to the unavailability of church buildings, the cemetery became the usual place of common prayer.
