Abstract

The correspondence of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky is the most important source of the history of the relationship between the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) and the Orthodox churches in 1920—1940. The epistolary heritage of the metropolitan preserved on this topic allows us to analyze his interest in contacts with Orthodox, mainly Ukrainians by nationality. It allows us to determine what the goals and motives of the Metropolitan were in relations with Orthodox believers, as well as what features were shown in their correspondence in different periods. Also, from letters addressed to the metropolitan from the Orthodox addressees, we learn about the reaction of the Orthodox to the metropolitan projects of the church union.
