Abstract

Article is devoted to life and activity of the outstanding Russian geographer, the historian, the local historian, teacher and administrator Nikolay Guryevich Mallitsky (1873—1947) who forever connected the life with Central Asia. 25 years he headed the Turkestan office of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society. Several years was to editors-in-chief of the Turkestanskiye Vedomosti newspaper. 10 years was the elective head of city self-government of Tashkent. Nikolay Guryevich was one of founders of the higher education in Central Asia. He took the most active part in opening of the first university in Turkestan. The memoirs of relatives (N. N. Ostroumova) and colleagues (O. Yu. Poslavskaya) given below which are kept in personal fund of the scientist in National archive of the Republic of Uzbekistan open before us little-known pages of life and scientific research of Mallitsky.
