Abstract

The article deals with issues of charity and immigrants’ motivations for charity activities. Even similar actions may be different if their motivations differ.  The author, taking as an example the biographies of outstanding immigrant women such as Tenisheva, Yashvil, Breshko-Breshkovskaya and Mother Maria (Skobtsova), analyzed and identified real motives transforming actions into activities. The author found out that Mother Maria’s charity work was both an action and activity. Mother Maria — an outstanding actor of the Russian immigrant community — initiated a relatively new charity method that influenced its global development in the 20th century.
