Abstract

The paper discusses the importance of the Russian Red Cross Society (old organization) in the establishment and operation of medical institutions of the Russian refugees in Serbia, as well as information about Russian doctors who worked in Serbia between two world wars and dealt with the treatment of Russian refugees. During August and September 1921 formed the Russian Red Cross Society of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. It has accepted refugees from Russia and provided them with medical treatment. The Russian Red Cross Society has established a medical facility (infirmaries, hospitals, clinics, sanatoriums, rehabilitation centers and dental clinics). Members of the Society are helping refugees to get documents for temporary or permanent residence in Serbia, to get a job and an apartment, and help them financially. Management of the Society has cooperated with the authorities in order to obtain assistance for medical institutions that formed the Russian Red Cross in Serbia. With the support of the Russian Red Cross in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes from 1 September 1921, operated three hospitals, 20 outpatient clinic for adults, a clinic for children, four medical points, ten dental clinics, three kitchens for the poor, one hostel, two collection centers and two sanatoriums for people with disabilities, the elderly and the sick. All employees of these institutions were Russians. The most important medical institutions that formed the Russian Red Cross Society were in Belgrade and Pancevo.
