Abstract

The features of the creative heritage of Russian architectural emigration to the eastern Baltic of the interwar period are presented in the context of the emigration process as well as work activities and compared to other European centres of the Russia abroad. Special conditions are determined by the fact that the Baltic countries joined the Russian Empire as well as the close professional relationship of St. Petersburg-based architects with the Baltic region in the pre-revolutionary times. As a result, the creative heritage of Russian architects who domesticated the “Baltic text” is characterized by identical regional artistic features. To present this regional specificity in the works of Russian architects the works of A. I. Vladovsky — a leader of Russian architectural emigration in the Baltic states and a figure of Russian culture — are analysed. The acculturation of Russian architects in the countries of their residence can be considered as a natural phenomenon in the culture of the Russia abroad. The developments in the eastern Baltic are the most vivid confirmation of this phenomenon.
