Abstract

This article explores the activities of colonel Alexander Nikolaevich Fenoult after his emigration to Finland and his work in the Special Committee for Russians in Finland. Providing monetary and legal assistance to Russian refugees required a degree of self-sacrifice from the Committee’s chairman. Fenoult fulfilled this role honourably, which earned him the sympathy and gratitude of the Russian diaspora in Finland. Also reports by the Finnish Secret Police and even by Soviet intelligence agencies portray him as an upstanding, decent and responsible person. Interestingly, nobody knew about his collaboration with General Kutepov and support he provided to emigrant terrorists. The publication uses previously unpublished documents from the National Archives of Finland, the Bakhmeteff and Hoover Archives, as well as the Family Archives of A. N. Fenoult.
