Abstract

The article researches the processes that occurred with the communities of sisters of mercy in Russia after the February Revolution of 1917. The author pays special attention to ideas voiced at meetings of the All-Russian Union of sisters of mercy and the Union of Red Cross Sisters, which were formed in August-September of 1917 and meetings of the Central Board of Management of the Russian Red Cross Society, which was formed in March of 1918. Inconsistency of actions between these institutions and changes in the political situation in the country did not allow the implementation of the developed projects, despite a lively discussion on many issues. As the author notes, the actions of the Soviet government, which abolished the communities, only completed the trends towards the transformation of the sister of mercy into a professional medical worker.
