Abstract

The article analyzes the views of the Russian diplomat Petr Ivanovich Poletika on various aspects of the U. S. life in 1810s — first half of 1820s, which he observed during his work in this country in 1809—1811 and 1817—1822. He actively participated in the development of diverse relations between Russia and the United States and in reaching agreement between the two countries on border demarcation in Northwest America. Petr Ivanovich. Poletika wrote a book based on his detailed study of the USA and it was published in 1826 in French and English accordingly in London and Baltimore. The book is an important source on American history and perception of the USA abroad, but still has no Russian version.
