Abstract

This article discusses the impact of the oil factor on the whole complex of relations between the United States and the USSR. Throughout specified period, relations between superpowers were characterized by a serious confrontation in some important areas (both in the military-political and the economic-raw materials areas). Washington and Moscow held different positions, but they tried to achieve their foreign policy goals by different means. As the main issues, we can list the control over oil production and oil consumption, oil transportation, military aspects of the world oil problem. Special attention is paid to the objective and subjective reasons for the decline in world oil prices in 1985. In the history of the Great Oil in the twentieth century, the well-known statement that politics is a concentrated expression of the economy is clearly confirmed.
