Abstract

The article analyses the views of American historians on the activities of German big business around the Dawes Plan. The author focuses on American historiography on the impact of foreign loans on social conflicts in the Weimar Republic. This study aims to enrich discussion on the effectiveness of the Versailles-Washington system of international relations with new data and concepts. American historians cited compelling evidence of the fragility of Germany’s economic, social, and political stabilization achieved in 1924—1929. In the end, the Entente countries could not provide the conditions for the creation of a the “social world”, proclaimed in the Treaty of Versailles.
