Abstract

The article focuses on the place of work in the system of life values of representatives of the cultural underground of the 1960s — 1980s, concerning mainly the community of Soviet hippies. The study of a large complex of memoirs that has developed in recent decades suggests that primitive “social parasitism” (tuneiadstvo) and ethics of autonomy, contrary to the prevailing stereotype, are far from exhausting all the diversity of work ethic of the “generation of janitors and watchmen”. According to the findings of the study, it is in the midst of Soviet hippies that the emergence of the ethics of responsibility towards the society in which they live becomes noticeable.
