Abstract
The article shows that Virgil is associated with a very important stage in the development of the Roman myth. The author studies the main aspects of mythological interpretation of the world-historical predestination of Rome, the formation of ideas about the Roman universal power as a special god-blessed mission of the Roman people which is destined to rule other nations and tribes, to unite them into state and human community, to bring them civilization. The main myth-creating accents in the Aeneid are assigned to all sorts of predictions that form the frame of the poem. The role of Jupiter's and Anchise 's predictions for the formation of the Roman myth are analyzed as well as the description of the shield of Aeneas. The place of Virgil's views in the prophetic aspirations of the epoch is discussed. The relationship of historicism and cosmism in the Vergilian Roman myth is discovered.
