Abstract

The article examines an episode of the history of the embassy to the Spanish Court headed by Piotr Potiomkin (1667—1668). The fact that ambassadors brought the chart addressed to King Philip IV who had died in 1665, was usually interpreted as an evidence of the lack of information about the death of this monarch. But the analysis of the news about Spain in 1665—1667 in russian reviews of foreign press (Kuranty) composed in Ambassadorial Office, as well as the instruction received by the ambassadors in Moscow, show that the information about the change of the monarch, although incomplete, has arrived without delay. The fact that the chart was addressed to the late King, may be explained by the lack of information about the powers of authority of the Queen Mother and by the desire to avoid the protocol error that could interfere with mission’s success.

En el artículo se analiza un episodio de la historia de la embajada de Piotr Potiomkin a España (1667—1668). El hecho de que la carta que portaban los embajadores fuese dirigida al rey Felipe IV (quien ya había fallecido en el año 1665) se interpreta por la mayoría de historiadores como un testimonio de que Moscú no disponía de información sobre el cambio de monarca. Pero el análisis de las noticias sobre España en 1665—1667 en los resúmenes de prensa extranjera (kuranty), que se componían en la Cancillería de embajadores, así como de la instrucción recibida por los embajadores en Moscú, muestra que la información sobre el cambio del monarca, aunque muy incompleta, llegó a Rusia casi sin retraso. El hecho de que la carta fuera redactada al nombre del rey fallecido es interpretable, por ejemplo, en relación a la falta de conocimiento sobre los poderes de la Reina Madre y al deseo de evitar un error de caracter protocolario que pueda impedir al éxito de la embajada.
