Abstract

The article relates the basic statuts of Belgian Constitution of 1831, traces the reforms in social and political spheres in the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century, which involved corresponding changes of the Constitution. In particular, the author reveals constitutional transformations of the late 20th and first decade of the 21st century provoked by national and linguistic contradictions. As a result a new Constitution was adopted in 1994, which changed the state structure and Belgium became a Federal state.
