Аннотация
В 2012 г. автор возглавил группу археологов Аляскинского офиса истории и археологии Лесной службы США и Ситкинского исторического общества, занимавшейся поиском судна Российско-американской компании «Нева», о котором было известно, что оно потерпело кораблекрушения в январе 1813 г. недалеко от острова Ситка. Проект дополнительно поддержала Национальная океанская и астрономическая администрация и Фонд национального морского заповедника. Основываясь на свидетельствах людей, переживших крушение, материалах аэрофотосъемки и перелетов, информации об исторических приливах и беседах с местными дайверами, группа обнаружила русские артефакты там, где, как считается, находился лагерь выживших членов экипажа «Невы». Получив финансирование от Фонда национальной науки США (Решение PLR-1330939), автор вернулся на данное место в июле 2015 г. вместе с международной группой американских, российских и канадских ученых для проведения обследования и раскопок. Результаты полевых исследований наряду с архивными изысканиями, проведенными Евгенией Анищенко и автором в Санкт-Петербурге и Лондоне, детализировали наше знание истории «Невы» и выживания в суровой окружающей среде.
