Abstract
The author relates the history of the Mongolian conquest of the Volga-Ural Region and the history of the Bashkirs’ resistance to the Mongolian conquerors on the basis of written sources and Bashkir folklore. The author shows the terms on which the Bashkirs joined the Golden Horde (Juchi Ulus), the structure of the administrative authorities according to historic Bashkir legends and shezheres (pedigrees), the influence the Golden Horde khans’ administrative policy on the ethnic map of the Volga-Urals in the 13—14th centuries, the migration of the Kipchaks and Polovets and its role in the Bashkirs’ ethnogenesis.
