New issue of the ISTORIYA is dedicated to the blessed memory of Alexei Anatolievich Frolov (25.09.1974 — 10.07.2024), widely known for his works on historical geography, source studies, the history of Russian cartography and historical geoinformatics. First part of the issue is devoted to new approaches to studying the problems of the history of science, in particular, to examining the role of the spatial factor in the production, application and transfer of knowledge. The papers of the part are based on the material of the Middle Ages and Early Modern Period. Another part of the issue offered to the reader reflects not only the richness of the world of visual features, but also the diversity of modern research approaches. What goals and objectives, accessible to heraldic interpretation, did ideologists set for themselves?

2024 marks the 15th anniversary since the foundation of the online journal “ISTORIYA”. The decision to create a technologically new, and at the same time academic periodical was made in the spring of 2009 at the 5th All-Russian Сonference of deans and heads of departments of University. Thus, “ISTORIYA” was originally conceived as a full-fledged and independent online media, and not only as an online copy of a traditional print journal. Today “ISTORIYA” is included in the main Russian and international scientometric databases, but, most importantly, the journal has proven itself as a communication platform not only for the professional community of historians, researchers, teachers and methodologists, but also for the widest audience – everyone who is interested in history.
