Abstract

The article reconstructs the biography and highlights ideological and political views of A. A. Khazov, an engineer, chess player, and a public figure of the Russian emigration to France. On the basis of previously unpublished sources, the article considers the process of forming his ideas about the Motherland. Having left Russia in his youth, Khazov managed to retain his “Russianness”, and invariably in his thoughts he returned to his abandoned Homeland, reflecting on the future of the country. In Khazov’s perception, the image of the Motherland was associated with pre-revolutionary Russia, the successor of which, in his opinion, the Russian state should have become in the future. Analyzing the changes in Russia in the 1990s, he did not believe in the possibility of a radical change in the political formation and perceived the country’s statesmen as heirs of the communist system. Meanwhile, Khazov created a positive image of the Russian people, perceiving them as the custodian of the traditional values of Russia.
