Abstract

The article considers the evolution of the importance of political-military cooperation with Western European countries (France, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg) for Germany from the period of “classic” Cold War to the 2010s. The author explores the degree of institutionalization of interstate relations between Germany and each of these countries in the political sphere. The key attention is paid to the cooperation at various multilateral negotiating platforms for the resolving of security problems. The scientific paper shows the key variants of the transformation of foreign military presence in Germany since the 1990s (first of all, on the examples of Western European countries’ military presence in Germany). The key factors which determine the nature of interaction between Germany and Western European countries during the creation and functioning of different multilateral military mechanisms outside and inside the NATO zone of responsibility are demonstrated. The author of the article makes a conclusion about general dynamics of relations between Germany and the regional players in political-military sphere during the 2010s.
