Abstract

In the practice of constitutional and legal regulation of interethnic relations, such basic concepts as “nation”, “ethnos” are used. The understanding of their essence, the limits of the circle of subjects outlined by them, as well as their relationship to each other, may change in the course of constitutional development, especially in the context of updating the legal paradigm. The concept of “nation” is the subject of research in anthropology, sociology, political science, philosophy and history. Today, through the prism of special scientific knowledge, various, sometimes mutually exclusive, approaches to determining its essence have been developed within these branches. The complexity of defining a normative concept that would be used in the legal regulation of interethnic relations is due to the need to take into account the features of the legal system, the relationships between normative legal acts, the general concept of legal regulation, as well as the existing strategic goals and objectives of state national policy. The article discusses the main scientific approaches to the definition of the concept of “nation”, analyzes the changes that the concept of “nation” has passed in the constitutional (state) law of the Russian state at different stages of its historical development. The dynamics of changes in the concept of "nation" in the constitutional acts of the Russian state is also shown in the tables (diagrams).
