Abstract

The period of late 1950s — early 1960s was extremely important, furthermore decisive, for the development of Soviet-Italian relations. And trade between the two countries played a key role in the development of this trend. Despite the limitations of mutual contacts imposed by the Cold War and that fact, that Italy was member of NATO, Italian business has sought to develop economic relations between the two countries. The Soviet leadership also showed interest in developing cooperation in the economy, both for political and economic reasons. The article, on the basis of materials from Russian and Italian archives, reveals the dynamics of the development of economic cooperation between the USSR and Italy during the period of the so-called “Earlydétente”.
