Abstract
The paper is dedicated to the life of Prince Svyatoslav Davydovich (1080—1143), who was the only prince of the Rurik dynasty to have taken the tonsure. The author discusses some difficult questions of the biography of the prince-monk, such as the dates of his life, the conditions of his naming, his taking part in politics, his tonsure and activity in the Kievan Cave Monastery, etc.
