Abstract
In the article the author analyses establishment of relations between Ethiopia and Russia in the late 19th — early 20th century, providing historical feedback into earlier epoch. The author also specifies that people from different parts of Africa could be called Ethiopians at that time in Russia. He explains the reasons and motivation of Ethiopians to come to the Russian Empire to study and work and traces their progress upon returning back home. The article is based on the archival documents from several Russian State archives.
