Abstract
The goal of the study is to research Moscow urban legends as a source of studying historical memory and Moscow citizens’ mythological vision. The source of the research are the legends: • collected by the researcher within 2000—2017; • collected by folklore researchers 1938—2017; • from Moscow history studies; • the Mass media; • from the Literature. The total number of the texts is 428. The texts differ in structure and theme; they are about different historic figures and cover different historical periods. All the legend s are structured and represented in www.urbanlegends.ru. Every legend is characterized by following features: lack of author, reproduction frequency and rarity. Supposed to have been verified the legends, however, can hardly be referred to as historical facts. Nevertheless, it is a unique source for historical memory study. All these points are reflected in the article.
