Abstract

The chapter highlights the transformation of structure, staffing and modus operandi of one of the UK most important government departments — Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Foreign Office) in a key period of the Versailles world-order genesis. The author focuses on new global and regional challenges, which the British ruling elite were confronted with, in an effort to adapt the centre of the empire and its dependent territories to the reali-ties of the continuing geopolitical rivalry, including the “exports of revolution” by Bolshevik Russia and the emergence of national liberation movement.
