Abstract
The problem of the emergence and development of nationalism in the Basque Country and Catalonia occupies a special place in the history of these regions and Spain. Although these phenomena appeared at about the reasons for their occurrence were similar same time, Basque and Catalan nationalism went in different ways. In one case, the struggle for their rights was more peaceful, and in the other, violence became one of the key methods. The article attempts to identify the causes of such differences, tracing the main stages of the development of nationalism in the two regions.

El problema del origen y el desarrollo del nacionalismo del País Vasco y Cataluña ocupa un lugar especial en la historia de estas regiones de España. Aunque el nacionalismo vasco y el catalán aparecieron en la misma época y por causas similares, las trayectorias de su desarrollo fueron diferentes. En un caso, la lucha por los derechos de la comunidad autónoma ha sido bastante pacífica, mientras que en el otro la violencia se ha convertido en el método clave. El artículo trata de identificar el porqué de estas diferencias para trazar las principales etapas del desarrollo del nacionalismo en las dos regiones.
