Abstract

The article is dedicated to the basic principles of functioning of the wiki-resource “Open List” — database of victims of political terror in the USSR from 1917 to 1991. The “Open list” is a public project where any registered user can create a story about a repressed person or edit an existing one. One of the objectives of the project is to help people find their repressed relatives. The article provides a brief overview of the databases on the victims of terror constructed in different regions of the former USSR, examines the problems of constructing a unified database and the ways to solve them in implementation of the “Open List” project. Particular attention is paid to the possibility of using the materials of the “Open List” in historical studies.
