Abstract
The article deals with a use of a concept "istoriopisanie" (Russian: historical writing) in contemporary Russian-speaking academic history. The author analyzes its background, various contexts of use, and its correspondence with other kindred concepts (historiography, historical knowledge etc.). It was concluded that, despite the increasing use of the concept "historical writing", it remains insufficiently defined.
