Abstract
The issues of open qualitative data and qualitative research entering the order of e-Research are considered here on the basis of the discussion among the British qualitative scholars that took place after the first national qualitative data archive “Qualidata” was launched in England, and the practical experience of the Obninsk digital project. Qualitative researchers are especially sensitive to ethical and epistemological issues of both traditional archive and normal science practices transferred to the digital scientific environments. Problematization of these practices is a valuable impact that qualitative research makes in the development of e-Research. With all the risks involved in opening of qualitative data, the role of sites for elaborating experimental solutions is taken by minor initiatives, such as the Obninsk digital project, rather than by big national archives.
