Abstract
The Russian formalism term “automation” suddenly ceased to be a metaphor in the digital age. This article is an attempt on the example of the concept of “distant reading” Moretti F. to answer the question what the epistemological status have automated analytical objects? This approach is relevant in the context of actual problems in relations of quantitative and qualitative methods in the field of text analysis today. It discusses prospects for the digital “slow reading”, because the optical potential of high-quality digital reading is in the endless process of shifting semantic perspectivization.
