Abstract
The purpose of this article is an attempt first undertaken in historiography to define milestone milestones, which have fundamental, altered the relations between Austria and Prussia in the nineteenth century. The main criteria are the changes in the balance of power between Austria and Prussia in Europe, and in the correlation of their political influence in the German lands. The study is based upon the analysis of official documents of the foreign ministries of the German powers, and personal correspondence of German statesmen. The result was the identification of four main periods in relations between the two countries in the nineteenth century, and also the conclusion about the implementation of the Bismarck concept of the 70 million Empire on the foreign policy basis. It generates new approaches to the study of German unification and the relations between the German states and their partners in Europe.
