Abstract
The article deals with the “start-up” of the atomic diplomacy and the nuclear arms race which as the author argues connected not only with Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing but also with the first American nuclear bombs’ test at the Bikini atoll in July 1946. Since that time US atomic monopoly determined the American-Soviet contest over any control agreement. It was a mutual exercise in bad judgment. It may be described as the beginning of the Cold War.
