Abstract
The article examines the political poetry of the German Democrats — the German radical supporters of the French Revolution (1789—1799) — with the aim of reconstructing their ideological stance. Their understanding of the important German political discourse’s categories such as “freedom”, “equality”, “legality”, “nation” are sequentially considered. This analysis is complemented by studying the attitude of the German Democrats to the key events happening in France and German states, especially during Revolution’s radical stage (1792—1793).
