Abstract

In a number of recent publications in Russia, the old concept of the Soviet historiography underlining that the Hungarian revolution of 1956 was inspired by the Western secret services, which were pursuing their subversive goals, has been reanimated and this fact is in accord with some more general trends in contemporary Russian historiography. Nevertheless, a more scrupulous archival research demonstrates inconsistency of such speculations.
