Abstract
This article deals with the seminal changes in the approaches to the history of the Cold War after its termination. The author traces the impact of the “archival revolution” in Russia upon the historical research, covers the ongoing debate between “triumphalists” and their critics, adding up his own views and arguments in regard to the vexed problems of the origins of the Cold War, of the “paths unused” to curb it and of how it ended.
