Abstract
This Chapter deals with the history of the Russian religious traditions (such as Orthodoxy, the old belief, Islam, Judaism and Buddhism) in the twentieth century (first of all, in the Soviet period) and at the present time; the main elements of discriminatory policies of Soviet power in relation to religion and its consequences are described. The stages of the revival of the public importance of the Russian religions in post-Soviet period are treated in detail.
