Abstract
The article contributes to bringing the results of public opinion poll by Levada-center, initiated in February 2009 and dedicated to religious practices of population in Russia, into the context of sociological studies of religiosity. The author comes to the conclusion of the specificity of religious situation in Russia: on one hand is the Orthodoxy for the majority of population in Russia a basis for the national and cultural self-identification. On the other hand people have very vague notions of the religion and practically they are not ready to participate in the life of the Church or the parish.
