Abstract
The article is devoted to a study of ideas of equity and justice of the ancient Romans during the transition from the Republic to the Empire. The theoretical basis of these ideas was expressed in the treatises of the famous politician and orator of the 1st century B. C. Marcus Tullius Cicero. Special attention is given to the problem of the relation the Greeks’ and the Romans’ bases in the formation of categories of aequitas and iustitia. The analysis of the main treatises allows to draw a conclusion that there was a specific system of representation of equity in three dimensions: political, social, and anthropological.
