Abstract
The spiritual censorship in pre-Revolution Russian Empire was considered to be the most strict. In the article the main stages of the history of the spiritual censorship are discussed. The interaction of the spiritual censorship with the secular one in the 17th—19th centuries is also studied. On the base of the materials of the fund of Saint-Petersburg censor Commitee the main methods and principles of the activity of the spiritual censor Commitee in the middle of the 19th century (1856—1857) are analyzed more in detail.
