Abstract
The paper investigates an inscription from Roman colony of Theveste (ILAlg I 3040). A sentence “in contione populi” is reconstructed in the text which informs about execution of a will. An attempt is made to define the role of the contio in this process on the basis of comparison of the 3rd century AD realities and the testamentum comitiis calatis in Early Rome.
