Abstract
This article is devoted to the analysis of reception by contemporaries the key historical events during the Great Reforms era. The author has been marked the most often parallels, which was made between the situation in Russia and the events of world history. The diversified spectrum of opinions and impressions of the most important historical event in this transitional era - the peasant emancipation of the 1861 - is represented in the article and is shown rang of determining social, political and cultural factors.
