Abstract
The conclusion of the article that is the result of investigation of the original sources and literature, is that general theoretic and philosophical base of Spanish enlightenment is eclecticism in which one of the most important roles, together with theology, was played by experience. A high level of interest to it was caused by positive changes in the social-political condition during the ruling of Charles III (1759 – 1788) that required more constructive and conceptual base that would proved the necessity of developing in Spain exact and natural sciences. And the Spanish enlighteners saw that base first of all in experiment and in sensualism of English philosophers F. Bacon and J. Locke and tried to introduce their ideas as priority, first of all in the education, and to reform by this means Spanish society. The leading role in the theoretical substantiation and practical realization of this questions played G. M. de Jovellanos.
