Abstract
This paper presents the process of foundation and development of the Society of former political convicts and exiles from 1917 till 1924. The Society was established to carry out the humanitarian relief for the socialists who had been imprisoned as 'politicals' before 1917 and to study the history of the revolutionary movement, prisons, penal servitude and exile in Russia. Author compares formal and real internal organizational structure of the Society and pays special attention to Communist Fraction of VKP (b) influence in everyday activity and political actions of Society. One of the author’s main aims was to clarify the reasons of the Society politicization.
