That issue of the “ISTORIYA” is devoted to a complex of various problems of world development in the modern era. The complex, nonlinear processes of socio-political transformations that have influenced various regions of the world over the past few centuries have led to global changes both at the global level and at the level of individual states and societies. All this makes the study of various aspects of these processes an urgent scientific task.
The breadth of the issues under consideration determines the thematic division of the issue. It is divided into three large blocks, the first of which is devoted to various issues of national history of the 18th — 20th centuries. The emphasis is placed on the connection of the internal development of our state in various periods with the ongoing international (regional and global) processes. Special attention is paid to the issues of integration processes of socialist countries within the framework of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance, international relations of the Soviet Union as a whole. The second block is devoted to the problems of technological development and scientific policy in the 20th — 21st centuries. The range of topics under consideration is very extensive: from cultural, scientific and educational activities of the Soviet government, to the study of Russia's place in world science.
Finally, the third large block of articles, “Varia”, includes articles in which the processes of global social transformations of Modern and contemporary times are shown on the most diverse historical material, topics from different countries and periods.
