Abstract

The paper explores preservation of the Russian émigré community’s cultural heritage. The Russian Cultural and Historical Museum in Prague (1935—1944) is the first national Russian museum abroad established with funding from first wave Russian émigrés who worked together to collect and preserve results of their creative activities in the period between two world wars. It focuses on the history of its creation as well as life and dedicated work of its director V. F. Bulgakov who made a lot of efforts to ensure that a part of the museum collection which survived the Second World War could return home becoming an integral part of Russian culture of the twentieth century.
