Abstract

The article is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the Centre for Nordic and Baltic Studies of the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It talks about the stages of the formation of the direction of Baltic studies at the Institute. The author focused on such issues as the establishment of relations between the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences and historians of the Baltic countries, institutionalization of cooperation (the activities of the Russian-Latvian and Russian-Lithuanian commissions of historians), the publishing activities of the Centre over the past quarter century (collections of articles and conference materials, serial publications, issues of the ISTORIYA (Electronic Scientific and Educational Journal “History”), as well as activities in the field of integration of academic science and higher education. The activities of the Centre for Nordic and Baltic Studies of the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences are an integral and inseparable part of modern Baltic studies. The interest in the Baltic region as a zone of cooperation and conflict will only increase in today's challenging international environment.
