Abstract

The paper examines educational manuscripts of the 18th century from Northern Greece, stored in the Russian State Library. The structure and content of the manuscripts are considered, and references are given to the books printed in 17th — 18th centuries, which became a source for some articles. The scribal records, as well as later records and owner's marks are analyzed. The geography of the origin and existence of the manuscripts is traced: the towns of Naousa and Veria and the village of Galatista in Central Macedonia, the village of Kleinovos in Thessaly. It is established that at the early 18th century, a teacher Ioannikios was teaching students in Naousa according to the secondary school program: reading and interpreting writings of ancient Greek authors, works of Church fathers, liturgical canons and letters. This is the earliest documented evidence of school education in Naousa. Information is provided about the scribe Ioannnes Papachristou from the village of Kleinovos, as well as about the owners of the manuscripts: the “prodromite” Makarios from Galatista, hieromonk of the monastery of John the Baptist, and Manuel Anastasiades, a doctor from Veria.
